Bug!

I learned that I'm a destination person, not a journey person. And that realization made me sad. I focus so intently on the task at hand that I forget to look up and observe what's around me. I miss everything because I concentrate on the goal. And that's sad to know. This weekend, while kayaking up Wailua River and hiking to a waterfall, I realized the sadness of my state. Once I realized that, I forced myself to look up as often as possible so as not to miss the beauty around me. I don't want to be miss anything ever again.

Friday
1) I could travel lighter if I didn't insist on taking my pillow.
2) Sneakers take up less bag space when packed correctly.
3) Thank goodness for Longs and Safeway. Who remembers a pillow but forgets a toothbrush?!?

Saturday
4) I would not sleep well if I didn't insist on taking my pillow.
5) Wailua River, though whitewater free, is by no means to be considered docile.
6) Wailua River water does not taste good.
7) Paddling a kayak is very different from paddling a canoe.
8) I don't think I like tandem kayaks.
9) Mud kills. So do river stones.
10) Forested areas have weird bugs that stick to sweaty skin.
11) I should traverse through nature more often.

Sunday
12) I'm in better shape than I thought... NOTHING ACHES!
13) I need to go back to see Kalalau.
14) Weekends are fantastic when used contructively.
15) Think I can handle skydiving next?
