• Harvard's Improbable Research alerted me to evidence that one can experience severe weight loss from chewing gum. I don't believe it. I've been chewing gum my whole life. Have you seen me lately? It's got nothing to do with gum, that's for sure.
• Breaking news (or is it?): Sir Elton John cannot adopt a 14-month-old boy in the Ukraine because he is unmarried and too old. And that was the most polite way they could say that. And, to salt that wound, that morsel of information has a home in today's homepage headlines at BBC.co.uk.
• This book promises to tell me how I, as a human, am related to cheese mites and cherry trees. I can't wait to read it.
• Check out 10 unusual playgrounds from around the world. I feel gypped with my youthful romping in playgrounds that paled in comparison. Gypped.
