Pound for Pound

I read something today in the science section of the New York Times and I know one friend in particular who will be glad to read it. I hope she's reading my blog!

My friend is not overweight, not by any measure I can find, but she does strive to maintain the figure she prefers. She's always insisted that her body wants to be a certain size and there's no way she can make it any smaller. For the record, I totally believe her. Always have. And now, I present her with scientific proof to support her claim:

Scientists now believe that each individual has a genetically determined weight range spanning perhaps 30 pounds. Those who force their weight below nature’s preassigned levels become hungrier and eat more; several studies also show that their metabolisms slow in a variety of ways as the body tries to conserve energy and regain weight.

I still have to find scientific proof about her claim that "heavy bones make me sink in the water, that's why I can't float" theory. No worries, I'm on it.
