Give peas a chance.

I walked Fort Street Mall just three times today and, each time, I played "Dodge the Greenpeace-ers." Why dodge? It's not that I don't support the cause. It's not that I don't support the students who support the cause.

I'm dodging the sales pitch, that's all. I know the pitch, I was a salesperson. I managed salespeople. I know the pitch by heart. My salespeople had a mantra that went something like this: I will keep calling until you 1) close your company, 2) move to the mainland or 3) die. Don't laugh! Honestly, I'm not sure that reasons one and two are all that accurate, but the last one I know for sure. We had several clients pass away over the years, so that part held true.

And these dedicated student workers. They will ask me to save a tree until 1) I save all the trees on the planet, 2) give them enough money to save all the trees on the planet or 3) become a tree.

My plan for this week? Nah, I'm not gonna become a tree. I'm just gonna traverse the mall as a member of a herd. There's safety in numbers.

As you walk by, tell them you want "free gravity now"...

HA, yeah, to go along with "free air"...

I hear you, Lei Ana! I fear those baby blue shirts. Yesterday I saw a guy wearing that color shirt and my immediate reaction was to quickly turn the corner. But much to my relief, it was just a random guy. When I walk down Fort Street Mall I either 1) walk with a group of strangers 2) walk WAY on the side.

Fort Street Mall isn't that scary, IMHO. I'm a city boy.

But there's always safety in numbers.

The FSM scene will change on Tuesday when several thousand HPU students return to our biggest campus!
