Last night I flipped through the channels of not-so-late-night TV and settled on the Discovery Channel. I love that channel. Wanna know what I discovered? A show called NextWorld. Have you seen it? It's all about "futuristic" technology that's here, now. It's all of the fascinating technology you've seen in the movies, read about in books and the kind of stuff that Gene Roddenberry dreamed up for Star Trek. Remember the cool future you saw on the Jetsons? Yeah, that too. It's all the fanciful futuristic wonderment that the brilliant minds of today have made a reality. And the reality of it is that all of that technology will be the norm in 20, 30 or 40 years.
Wow. How stoked am I that all that could be MY reality? Incredibly. Have you seen Eureka? The SciFi Network has my heart there. I want to live in Eureka (with my coffee). Not as badly as my sister would like to live there, but I'd really dig the chance. I'd gladly be their faithful baker and I would bake them fanciful scones and delectible pies for as long as they'd enjoy them. Seriously.
I don't know about you, but I find so much of it absolutely fascinating. Technology has opened doors to a new kind of existence. When balanced with feasibility, is phenomenal. I wish I could comprehend the specifics, but I'm more than happy to enjoy the results.
Technology not your thing? Then how about something more rustic? I enjoy baking and the process soothes me. I still cut butter into flour by hand because my mother says everything tastes better when it's hand made. I skin my apples with a paring knife and toss the curls into an well-used, light mint green Tupperware bowl. My uneven pie crust is more beautiful because of its imperfections. Or so my mother tells me. But what really matters to me is that she enjoys the pie, the result.
Have you enjoyed a result today?
