Yes, it's true, Tightwad Bank in... wait for it... Tightwad, Missouri has re-opened. You can get the scoop from NPR's podcast here.
How badly do I want an account there? I mean, how awesomely awkward would it be to whip out my debit card with the word "Tightwad" emblazoned across the top? OK, so I'd have to get over my initial fear and loathing of anyone thinking I'm remotely aligned with the concept of cheapness. But once I'm over that, it might be just as funny as when I wear my "40 Year Old Virgin" hat and my "Reject Rejection" t-shirt, both of which I proudly sport at the gym (yeah, that was me you saw trudging on the treadmill).
The bank's slogan, "A bank with a sense of humor," is genious in this floundering economy. As any good marketing ploy, it pays to play emotions. Look at our very own "Home of the Warm-Hearted Bankers" or "Fiercly Loyal Banking." Both of those evoke emotions of comfort and security. Why not employ comedic relief in the tactics for winning over consumers? It works during the Superbowl commercials. It's working at the box office with hits like "Step Brothers," "Pineapple Express," and "Tropical Thunder."
Genious, Tightwad. Genious.

With the economy looking more and more grim with each passing hour i have to say i like the idea of a bank with a sense of humor. However, the one seen here: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/154/425936214_8916a5b908.jpg?v=0
would make me ill at ease doing business with.
